2020 Census Outreach Update
Our 2020 Census outreach work involves a combination of in-reach and outreach through significant grassroots cultural events that are now being re-conceptualized to become mostly virtual announcements as precautionary methods in the on-set of the looming health crisis due to the spread of COVID-19 across NYC communities. Read the Department of Health announcement here.
We were hoping that our largest platform, the Loisaida Festival, which draws over 28,000 people each year could significantly expand our outreach efforts on Sunday, May 24th 2020. Unfortunately, the City has now revoked all permits for any street fair and activities for the remainder of the year. Nonetheless, we will keep the over 30 year tradition and for the first have launched the [Virtual] Loisaida Festival, broadcasted live through out social media channels.
As a community development Arts and Culture organization, Loisaida Inc., ramped up engagement through the production of an original and unique web-based miniseries premiering every week LIVE through Facebook and Youtube; employing theater and improv professionals that aim to get the message across our target Latinx and Hispanic population leading up to the 33rd annual [Virtual] Loisaida Festival.
We will continue to fold in messaging and in-reach in regards to the Census into many of our existing programs such as; the Artistic Residency Program, and the Virtual Arts Program. Loisaida Inc. will continue to outreach as much as possible through other means in coordination with partner organizations and NYCHA community leaders. Our goal is still to engage over 10,000 people, and we aim to drive at least 6,000 self-response completions.
Please take care of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you that are most vulnerable.
