MAPPING FROM OUTSIDE TO THE INSIDE:

The program is based on the idea of parting from the largest “object” in our case the Universe, as a starting point and from there begin to construct different visual maps using various artistic approaches. From the “largest” to the “smallest”, from a map of the Universe to a map of our country, city, neighborhood, house and ending by creating a map of our brain. Throughout these workshops we will use different artistic approaches to create our maps, from using our own bodies as representations of “stars” to using more conventional materials such as paint, glue and other crafts. Plus, the children will create maps in both 2 and 3 dimensions.

The program is meant for children starting at 5 years going up to 12, designed for groups up to 10 children per class.

DAY 3 – Sunday, August 27th from 1:00-3:00pm

• Activity 1: HOME MAP/MAPA DE LA CASA (1:00pm-2:00pm)

Using a “doll-house” style cardboard, children will draw the inside of a house and and on the other side, they will draw the outside of the house. Then the house will be built and displayed in 3D. 

• Activity 2: BRAIN MAP/MAPA DEL CEREBRO (2:00pm-3:00pm)

Our brain map. What goes on in our brain? What is helping us see and understand what color is? Would it be a misterious machine? How can we talk? Is our brain reproducing sounds that allow us to speak?
