MAPPING FROM OUTSIDE TO THE INSIDE:

The program is based on the idea of parting from the largest “object” in our case the Universe, as a starting point and from there begin to construct different visual maps using various artistic approaches. From the “largest” to the “smallest”, from a map of the Universe to a map of our country, city, neighborhood, house and ending by creating a map of our brain. Throughout these workshops we will use different artistic approaches to create our maps, from using our own bodies as representations of “stars” to using more conventional materials such as paint, glue and other crafts. Plus, the children will create maps in both 2 and 3 dimensions.

The program is meant for children starting at 5 years going up to 12, designed for groups up to 10 children per class.

DAY 1 – Friday, August 25th from 2:00-4:00pm

• Activity 1: CONSTELLATIONS/CONSTELACIONES (2:00pm-3:00pm)

We will observe images of constellations, we will talk about what they are and what are their forms and significance. Observaremos  imágenes  de  las  constelaciones, hablaremos  de  qué  son,  y  cuales  son  sus formas  y  significados. Afterwards, using their bodies, the children will distributre across the floor and each one will become a star and their bodies will be traced on to paper and, then each one will color and build their own constellations using glue, paint, glitter, fabric and other crafts.

• Activity 2: WORLD MAP/MAPA-MUNDI (3:15pm-4:00pm)

After observing a wooden Earth globe, the children will paint their own globes.
