Dennis Edge Photography Exhibition
February 1 ~ 29: Dennis Edge, 85, ‘The Birdman’ of Tompkins Square Park, passed away on Sept. 1, 2023. In memory of his work, Art Loisaida Foundation, City Parks & Recreation, and Loisaida, Inc. Center will host an exhibition of Dennis’ most beloved urban wildlife photographs of the birds he frequently documented living inside and around Tompkins Square Park.
Los Diasporicans Presents:
An Exploration of Latinidad and Cultural Belonging
February 3 ~ 4: What does it mean to be Latine? Have you ever felt disconnected from Latine culture by not being able to speak Spanish fluently? Ever felt too American for your Latine friends and too Latin for your American friends? Join us for an Applied Theatre workshop series exploring these questions and Latinidad culture with food, music, art and community, at the Loisaida, Inc. Center (1 ~ 4PM).
Nuyorican Poets Cafe
February 28: Open Mic hosted by Solpreme, a Nuyorican Poets Cafe offsite event at the Loisaida Center (6 ~ 8:30 PM).
Las Caras Lindas
February 23 ~ March 15: A historical exhibition at the Centro de Estudiantes, University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras Campus (Puerto Rico), Las Caras Lindas explores the visual and social impact of Latin music album covers during the period when the vinyl LP was a dominant format of entertainment, paying critical attention to issues of identity, sense of place, African roots, faith, rhythm, dance, and the body, as well as graphic aesthetics, through representations of Hispanic people and cultures as they are presented to the consumer, with an emphasis on Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York.
Senior Day
February 2: Art Workshops, Zumba/Aerobics, Educational Panels, Live Music, Snacks, Coffee and more! Senior Day events take place every first Friday of the Month (10 AM ~ 1:30 PM).
Talleres de Arte En Invierno
February 29 ~ April 4: Winter Art Workshops is a free 6-week program for older adults (60+), in partnership with The Whitney Museum (11 AM ~ 1 PM).
Black Beauty Art Workshop
February 20 ~ 22: The 3-day workshop, led by Joshua Evans and Chunbum Park in partnership with Lynkable and “Picture Man” Bob, provided a basic introduction to anatomy, perspective, and color theory. Then, by using imagination and reference photos, the participants collaborated on a final painting, seeking to capture the essence of black beauty in celebration of the Black History Month (3:30 ~ 6:30 PM).
