DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 20th at 7pm \nCity Lore (56 E 1st Street\, New York\, NY 10003) \n$10 Admissions\, All proceeds from ticket sales go to the Tato Laviera Foundation \n\nNuyorican poet pioneer Tato Laviera is well-known for his artistic contribution to the literary canon\, but Tato really got his start working for various community organizations on the Lower East Side where he championed his Loisaida family. \nThis program will feature a screening of CENTRO’s documentary\, AmeRican\, directed by Vivian Hernandez-Ortiz\, followed by a discussion with artists and activists who worked with Tato. \nIn partnership with the Tato Laviera Foundation\, the Loisaida Center and CENTRO.

DESCRIPTION:La Cocina de Loisaida is a monthly in-person cooking class series presented by The Loisaida Center and Essex Market\, where longtime Lower East Sider and home chef Maria Bido shares authentic Puerto Rican recipes and cooking techniques. Each month we’ll explore a new batch of family favorites\, all based in Puerto Rican flavors and using ingredients from Essex Market. \nIn this class you’ll learn how to make fabulous Puerto Rican starters that are full of flavor! Our menu consists of Pionones\, Vegan Relleno\, Surrullitos de Maiz\, and Limber de Coco. The dishes we will make are a phenomenal combination of traditional Caribbean Flavors!
